Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a doctor to examine the lining of your colon (large intestine) for abnormalities or signs of disease. It is usually performed as a screening test for colon cancer, but it can also be used to diagnose other conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and polyps.

During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube called a colonoscope is inserted through your rectum and into your colon. The colonoscope has a camera on the end that allows the doctor to see the inside of your colon on a monitor. If any abnormalities are found, the doctor may take a biopsy or remove polyps for further testing.

Colonoscopy is an important screening tool for colon cancer, as it can detect early-stage cancer and potentially save lives. It is recommended for individuals over the age of 50 or for those with a family history of colon cancer.

While colonoscopy is generally a safe procedure, there are some risks, such as bleeding, perforation (a tear or hole in the colon), and adverse reactions to the sedative used during the procedure. However, these risks are rare and the benefits of colonoscopy usually outweigh the risks.
